Laborers are the lightest of the unspecialized puppets created by Mechanized Archons, carrying only a dual slot on their backs. They represent a considerable portion of all puppets spawned by the Mechanized Archon, acting as light support units for larger puppets or working with groups of regular ones. A group of Laborers is called a camp.
Manipulators - Tricksters - Deltas - Myrmecophs - Laborers
Laborers are fairly big for light puppets, matching Manipulators at 3' 6". Their bodies, however, are fairly gangly, with slimmer limbs and a narrower barrel, to the point where their dual module slots poke out of their sides. They do not have any other major features, as their bodies are intended as templates that for a variety of configurations via different mechanized modules.
Given that they represent over a quarter of all the puppets spawned by a Mechanized Archon it is no surprise that Laborers are built largely for cooperation and coordination. While their dual slots are fairly limited in terms of total configuration variety, they can more easily slot into workforces of puppets, and as such, they are more willing to use all of their space on one module than Haulers. They may install storage or prospecting units when helping with resource collection, graspers when aiding construction, or even apartments or storage tanks when working amidst large quantities of Anchorages.
Some Laborers will even equip nothing but rocket pods and choose to work alongside Praetors as protectors for other puppets. In this stead, Brokers have been observed carrying armed Laborers as air-to-air missile launchers.
Like their larger siblings, Laborers represent an almost entirely blank puppet template, with only a minimal amount of tampering to make the mechanized portions a comfortable burden to bear. It is believed any exceptional intelligence or cooperation comes from the relative underutilization of their body space and brain mass, rather than some special genetic selection.
The first time I saw Allium spawn a Laborer, I was quite perplexed at first. Almost all of my children have a certain something special to them; uniquities in their bodies and minds. But these small ones start off about as standard as they come. She seemed offended when I pointed it out, and told me that each one has a plan for what they want to do, and thus, a configuration they want to have. It is humbling to remind myself that sometimes my children know things I do not fully understand, though I do make an attempt to expand my mind accordingly. First it was the Seraphs, now it's all of these strange little ones...
Laborers represent the idea of small outposts or singular "sockets" for building; initially, they were to only have a single slot just for that occasion. However, I realize that, unless I significantly increased the variety in the number of single slot modules, they would be a very boring puppet type, even within the realm of "their complexity comes from their loadout potentials". So, instead, I upped the available slots, which gives them a considerable (though still measurable) amount of variety, giving them somewhere in the league of nine possible combinations, which feels about right.
