Archons are a class of being somewhere between full Archmothers and lesser Puppets. They act as more independent agents within a puppet clan, capable of controlling some amount of the gestalt when situation calls for it and helping to organize greater activities. Unlike Archmothers, which consistently display a relative balance of physical and magical strength with an emphasis on puppet creation, Archons display a much broader range of strengths and weaknesses: Some specialize in physical abilities, others in magic, and some may specialize in completely different methods of spawning.
Colloquially, some call Archons "Archpuppets" to better represent their status above normal puppets, though Archmothers seldom favour this designation. A group of Archons is called a court.
What most separates an Archon from a puppet is how they come to be: That is, they are not spawned like normal puppets. Archons almost always arise from some exceptional method of creation, with the most common being properly birthed from an Archmother following some form of sexual reproduction. This is generally said to explain their variability, as they are seldom a "clean" genetic copy of their Archmother. Details on how Archons come to be will be elaborated on by class.
Despite their variations, Archons do have some consistent traits about them. The easiest way to tell if an equid abomination is an Archon is their eyes: Archons have sclerae and irises, but no pupils (as opposed to regular puppets, which lack irises). Additionally, an Archon's height is typically consistent: 8' 2", or 249cm. While body shape can vary, and some bodily features may cause an Archon to appear taller or shorter overall, generally, their bodies are consistently of a similar size.
While Archons are prone to functional inconsistentcy, one aspect of their abilities is always consistent: An Archon spawns full puppets, from a pool of subpuppets. The psionic weight from these spawned puppets is consistently passed over to the Archmother, so Archons instead only exist to increase the growth rate of a puppet clan.
While Archons do not spawn subpuppets, their impure genetic code means that some of their puppets may be altered during the spawning process, and as such, an Archon will typically have its own pool of puppet "variants" that they spawn in place of the more usual fare. Once again, this typically varies by Archon type, and will be elaborated on on a per-class basis.
