Ouroboran Overview

Ouroborae are colossal equid creatures belonging to a larger puppet clan, typically measured on the scale of miles or kilometers tall. They are hybrid biological-tectonic organisms that represent the final stage of a puppet clan influencing its environment, replacing the clan's host planet's tectonics with something the clan has direct control over. As such, Ouroborae spend much of their time out of view, located under the planet's crust, swimming in the molten rock of the planet's mantle and outer core as they carefully move alongside one another.

Ouroborae do sport a fair variety in terms of height and build, but they share many common features, including large wings that they use to orient and anchor themselves when arranging into a world shell as well as large antler-like protrusions on their sides (similar to those carried by Anchorages) that allow them to support greater land areas for their body size.

Creation

Ouroborae are not normally spawned, nor necessarily birthed under particular conditions like Archons. They instead accumulate over time as a puppet clan's psionic root network accumulates and sheds damaged ends and fibrules of psionic flesh. This process is incredibly slow, requiring billions of puppet spawns and deaths over potential decades, centuries, or even millennia to accumulate the psionic fiber mass needed for the clan to "seep" back into its host dimension. As the accumulation builds, puppet mass begins to deposit amidst the rock of the host planet, slowly being replaced with mass until the Ouroboran forms.

Due to their incredibly slow formation as well as their pre-conjunction with the gestalt, the formation of an Ouroboran has a vastly lower titan sickness effect on the clan's host Archmother than a titan of similar size would be expected to produce. Ouroborae do cause quite a bit of psionic weight on the gestalt, even sporting a duality of weight classes, but the slow integration of this weight onto the gestalt's brain mass seems to reduce the potential health complications on the gestalt.

Physiology and Metabolism

Being hybrid bio-tectonic organisms, the defining trait of an Ouroboran is a large crater-shaped indent in its back that is lined with a thick "cuticle" responsible for the formation of terrain. Though this method, the Ouroboran is able to provide mineral resources to its hosts, as well as stable building area and diverse habitats. Some Ouroborae have faster or slower movements than others, though all Ouroborae seem to be able to control their tectonics to some degree, allowing their carried landmasses to become extremely stable once the gestalt is satisfied.

Ouroborae are large enough creatures that even a truly enormous gestalt would have difficulty supplying the needed nutrients and energy to them through conventional means. As such, most Ouroborae harness an inherently magical digestive system, with much of their digestive systems dedicated to thaumic anatomy designed to amplify and transmute magical energy into the colossal quantities of materials that their bodies need. Why smaller puppets don't do this is unknown, but as this characteristic is largely unique to Ouroborae, it is assumed to be impractical past a certain threshold of size.

General Behaviour

While, like puppets, Ouroborae sport a variety of behaviours depending on caste, there are some common threads among them: Ouroborae will typically arrange themselves in large, static "shells" of roughly similar altitude, layering over one another as appropriate. All Ouroborae have this ability, though some are better at instigating shell formation than others, and shell arrangement and formation appear to be a defining trait of certain classes of Ouroboran. Ouroborae also are characterized as moving immensely carefully, and they seldom eat, even for recreational purposes.

Statistics

Being so comically large and powerful, the conventional puppet measures of Durability and Physical/Magical/Psionic strength are difficult to apply to Ouroborae. As such, they are given their own statistical scale to work on.

Islandic Ouroborae

Islandic Ouroborae occupy a size niche below their continent-sized cousins. They are typically much more mobile than their greaters, with an emphasis on swimming gently between larger Ouroboran landmasses. They may also seek to fill in empty spots between larger Ouroborae, though they are more likely to facilitate travel between shells or larger continents, moving vast quantities of puppets and materials across the land. There are two varieties of Islandic Ouroborae:

Continental Ouroborae

Continental Ouroborae make up the majority of Ouroboran varieties, occupying a much more substantial size niche with their larger figures giving their carried landmass more potential variety. Their larger bodies are much harder to move, but boast greater diversity than those of Island Ouroborae, with their larger bodies being able to host much greater land areas and more varied terrain. Pangaenic Ouroborae

Pangaenic are the largest of the Ouroborae. They are particularly rare, as their size almost demands either a complete consolidation of landmass during their formation, or the landmass of a particularly huge world. They are large enough to noticeably alter gravity around themselves through sheer mass, and their enormous frames often carry landmasses large enough to house entire multifaceted ecosystems. They are the anchors of the Ouroboran world, with even Continental Ouroborae typically giving way to the ultra-slow, ultra-deliberate maneuvers of a Pangaenic Ouroboran.
