Constructed by Serfs and operated by Anchorages, Sovereignties are mechanized puppets equipped with heavy weaponry. A group of Sovereignties is known as a state or coalition.
Sovereignties are rather sizeable among puppets at 5' 10" tall, with their bulky builds contributing significantly to their overall mass. As mechanized puppets, they do not have conventional flesh and biological tissue; instead, they have a hardened shell formed from thick layers of Haetin, including several reinforced body rings that give them substantial durability for their size. Of note is the small stonk of horns on their tail end, as well as a large firearm-like structure that lies inside their mouths, the magazine of which hangs over the side of their head like a mane. Their eyes are shadowy hollows, with two ringular glowing pink irises that they use for expression.
Sovereignties are an extension of the Anchorages and Serfs that construct and maintain them, acting as heavy guardians and powerful midline combatants. Their reinforced body structure gives them astonishing durability, to the point where, pound-for-pound, they match Praetors in terms of raw tankiness. Where Praetors excel in close-ranged combat, however, Sovereignties much prefer medium-range, laying down suppressive fire with the machine guns mounted inside their crania while targeting nimbler point targets with magic missiles. They typically try to occupy a space between the front lines and their host Anchorages in combat, as their machine guns require constant resupply from Serfs working in Foundries.
Outside of combat, Sovereignties spend much of their time around their host Anchorage, receiving repairs and restocks from Serfs and generally not doing much. They may occasionally help with civilian tasks, though for the most part they seem hard-wired to focus on military tasks. One particular niche they occupy is working in areas that other puppets may find dangerous or uncomfortable; in particular, carrying Totems over rocky terrain so magic can be used erode it into more comfortable, habitable soil.
Sovereignties have no genetic material, being constructs, but their consciousness appears to be psionic like other puppets. Given an Anchorage must have a valid hullyard to maintain a Sovereignty, the usual guess as to how they work is that the Sovereignty's consciousness is entirely offloaded to the structure, which follows the typical operating pattern of Anchorage buildings having biological or even seemingly live components.
Look, I'll be honest. I developed the idea for these guys while on a Titanfall 2 kick (though Stellaris also played some part in inspiring them). They're just combat mechs, I don't really know how to elaborate on them. They're something different for Anchorages and Serfs to use in combat.
Originally they were going to use physical missiles, but I couldn't make a launcher design I liked, so they got magic missiles instead. I like it as something for them to use if they run out of ammunition for whatever reason, given they're not actually that physically strong.
