Haulers are the middleweights of the unspecialized puppets created by Mechanized Archons, carrying a heavier quad slot on their backs. They replace less than half of all heavy puppets that the Mechanized Archon produces, fulfilling the role of moderate-sized outposts. A group of Haulers is called a suite.

Variants

Reconcilants - Howitzers - Mesosae - Haulers

Physical Description

Haulers, like their smaller siblings, are a bit large for the size class they represent, standing at a hefty 6 feet tall to properly support their quadruple module slots. They also sport fairly tall, lean builds, similar to Howitzers, though their bodies are large enough that all of their module slots fit comfortably into their barrels regardless.

Behaviour

Haulers fulfill the roles of larger, more varietous establishments within a clan of Mechanized Puppets; their larger size greatly increases the amount of variety in their potential loads, and indeed, most Haulers prefer not to carry a quad slot-sized module, instead preferring to carry a variety of single and dual slot modules to fulfill a wider variety of potential roles. Of particular note is a "mining" configuration that includes a rocket pod, a grasper, and a storage bay for autonomous mining operations, and a "battle support" configuration that includes a pair of rocket pods, a grasper, and a storage tank.

While Haulers have their own preferences in regards to equipment load, they are also highly receptive to the needs of the gestalt. In particular, if there is a glut of demand for modules, they may equip a fabricator to help with supplying such modules. It is believed this behaviour is due to the relative rarity of larger Shlephs and Arcologies, both of whom are better suited to carrying large modules.

Genetic Description

Haulers represent an almost completely and utterly blank template, with even their size genes not strongly tending one way or another. Their receptiveness to the gestalt's needs seems to be entirely empathetic, rather than something determined by any sort of psionic abilities.

Hyacinth's Thoughts

It feels a bit strange to pick out any of my children as particularly empathetic, but Haulers in particular seem to just have a certain sense of how all of their fellows are doing. I think I see them changing their modules around the most of any of the mechanized ones; that is to say, when any of them change at all, it is typically the Haulers who volunteer first. It's quite charming to see them checking up on the others, making sure all needs are fulfilled; I appreciate that they look out for the others.

Metanarrative

Being the middle child of an already somewhat generic line doesn't really do Haulers any favours, so extra attention was put on their personality; hence their increased sense of empathy and greater responsiveness to the gestalt's needs. It allows me to develop their character more without needing expressly designed elements.
